The Grand Chess Tour continues for 2022 in magnificent fashion with $1.4 million total prize fund allocated between 5 events.

Format

The 2022 Grand Chess Tour consists of two classical tournaments and three rapid & blitz tournaments. Each event has a separate prize fund and there are additional prizes for the top three players in the overall tour. The overall standings are determined by a points system based on the standings in each individual event.

The classical events are each a single round-robin of nine rounds. Players receive 1 point for a win and a ½-point for a draw. The time control is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, and 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment throughout.

The rapid & blitz events consist of nine rounds of rapid and 18 rounds of blitz. In rapid, players receive 2 points for each win and 1 point for a draw. In blitz, players receive 1 point for each win and a ½-point for a draw. Rapid games are played at a 25+10 time control and blitz games are played at a 5+2 time control.

The tiebreak regulations are outlined at the GCT website.
